Microsoft tests the Blogging-tool waters | drupal.org: "Food for thought and discussion. What would happen when every MSN/Hotmail user was automatically given the option to opt in for a free weblog (a la LiveJournal)?
Here is an extreme scenario. Having single sign-on in place (.NET Passport), every MSN user could comment on anyone else's blog and have his personal preferences follow him or her as he/she travels from weblog to weblog; a problem the rest of the weblog world has yet to solve. Naturally, their weblogs would seemingly integrate with their IM service/client, and both Internet Explorer and Outlook would get a handy 'blog this' feature. Moreover, having billions of MSN users, they could establish de facto technology standards and render existing technologies such as the Blogger API, MetaWeblog API and Trackback almost useless. At every aspect, they would have an immediate technical advantage over established weblog software." |
uJournal: "uJournal is a free service that allows you to create and customize your very own journal that you keep online!" |
GotDiary - Get your own free online diary today!: "GotDiary is a free system that allows you to create a diary, and share it with all of your friends. GotDiary is a LiveJournal clone, and runs on the same code-base as the LiveJournal system." |

Blogging for Nerds: "So you've heard about blogging by now, just about everyone has. Maybe you've brushed it aside as 'just another fad', or maybe you've signed up for an account and weren't impressed. For those of us who can belt out a little HTML, even if it is the shit-simple kind of HTML you'll find around here, blogging can be a bit impenetrable. Yea, sounds pretty weird. Why is such a simple tool impenetrable to people who know everything about the technical underpinnings of the systems? " |

XSLT: "XSLT.com is a site dedicated to providing XSLT, XPath and some XSL:FO infrormation for programmers. It contains resources about both XSLT 1.0 and the upcoming XSLT 2.0 standard. Or, to be more correct, 'specification', since World Wide Web Consortium does not make standards. " |
XSL Transformations (XSLT): "This specification defines the syntax and semantics of XSLT, which is a language for transforming XML documents into other XML documents.
XSLT is designed for use as part of XSL, which is a stylesheet language for XML. In addition to XSLT, XSL includes an XML vocabulary for specifying formatting. XSL specifies the styling of an XML document by using XSLT to describe how the document is transformed into another XML document that uses the formatting vocabulary.
XSLT is also designed to be used independently of XSL. However, XSLT is not intended as a completely general-purpose XML transformation language. Rather it is designed primarily for the kinds of transformations that are needed when XSLT is used as part of XSL." |

WordPress Development BlogWordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. It is the official successor of b2/cafelog. WordPress is fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001. It is a mature and stable product. PCWorld.com - Internet Tips: Forget Napster--Usenet Is Where the Files Are: "Read All About It
Microsoft's Outlook Express is included with every copy of Windows (in Windows 95 and NT 4, it was called Internet Mail and News). Netscape's Messenger is part of the free Communicator 4.7 package, available from our Downloads library; Forte's Free Agent is another free download. Forte's $29 Agent 1.8 is identical to Free Agent in the newsreading department, but it adds e-mail support.

Like Internet e-mail systems, NNTP servers handle text data only, and they provide no mechanism for transferring file attachments. So how do they manage to serve up full-length movies? As with e-mail, the secret is to encode binary, or nontext, data files into long streams of characters that can be posted as standard text messages. For convenience, large files are often divided into multiple messages, which increases the likelihood that the entire file will survive the vicissitudes of the Net. To get the encoded material onto your hard disk, download the messages to your newsreader, merge them into a single file (if they've been split into multiple messages), and then decode them to re-create the original file. To handle message attachments that end with .rar, .r00, .r01, .r02, or a similar extension, check out our Download of the Month.
Each of the three newsreaders mentioned above accomplishes the encoding and decoding without additional software, but each uses a slightly different process." |
